Saturday Night Live opened with Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson), who touted himself as peacemaker, now exulting in war with Iran.
Less than a day after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on the Iranian regime, killing the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the show scrambled plans for the cold open.
“People are asking, ‘Why attack Iran now?” Johnson’s Trump said. “Well, we had to strike in the early hours of Saturday, which has two advantages militarily. One, it’s after the stock market closes for the weekend. And two, it’s to cause immeasurable fear, rage and chaos in the SNL writers room. They probably had a big State of the Union address thing they were going to do. Not anymore!”
Making an appearance: Colin Jost, returning as the overcompensating Pete Hegseth. “Don’t let my confident demanor fool you. I am scared, and I don’t know what I am doing.”

The sketch ended as Hegseth told viewers, “Bottom line, you should all be thanking us. We took out a horrendous, horrible leader who is oppressing his own people.”
Then Trump chimed in, “But don’t get any ideas!”
More to come.
