Ryan Gosling may be hosting Saturday Night Live tonight, but it’s Harry Styles‘ show. The Grammy-winning musician, who’s pulling double duty on the late-nighter next week, unexpectedly crashed the Barbie star’s opening monologue — to take notes, of course.
“Is that … Harry Styles?” Gosling questioned. “What are you doing here man?”
“It’s been a while, so I wanted to watch, get a feel for it,” the Brit pop singer replied.
“So professional, that’s so awesome,” Gosling replied, thinly veiling his jealousy while accidentally calling his upcoming film “Project Harry Styles” as opposed to Project Hail Mary.
The camera then kept panning to Styles, detracting from Gosling’s monologue about earth on the Studio 8H stage.

“Could you listen less cool? It’s like your coolness is becoming an issue,” Gosling bemoaned.
The cameraman, wearing an “I <3 Harry” shirt, then opted for a split-screen. When the La La Land actor requested the split-screen be taken away, he got his wish — just with Styles dominating the frame instead.
Opting to relive the glory of the “I’m Just Ken” Oscar days, Gosling tried for a song, but feeling discouraged, ultimately called off the background dancers dressed as aliens. Sarah Sherman, meanwhile, remarked, “Get me to God’s country,” Morgan Wallen’s previous viral refrain about SNL, as she shimmied over to Styles.
In continuing his promotion for Project Hail Mary, Gosling shouted out his co-star Sandra Huller, who sings “Sign of the Times” in the sci-fi film. “Nobody wants this,” he remarked ruefully about performing the hit track in front of the man who penned it.
“I’d take a bullet right now,” he said, referring to the song’s lyric “Why are we always stuck and running from the bullets, the bullet?”
When Mikey Day appeared toward the end of the opener to comfort Gosling with a kiss, he was joined by a majority of the cast. Did they come “because I’m, like, your favorite host of all time?” The Fall Guy star asked. Nope, they came for Harry.
