EXCLUSIVE: David Cross‘s new comedy special, The End of the Beginning of the End — the ninth of his career — is available exclusively on his website starting today and will go wide on YouTube on April 7.
Filmed in Cross’s home state of Georgia, at the historic 40 Watt in Athens, the special sees him tackle the chaos of modern America head-on — skewering authoritarian politics, reproductive rights rollbacks, religious extremism, late-stage capitalism, and the uniquely American obsession with hoarding sneakers.
Cross jokes that as a bonus, “this whole thing was written by some of the cheapest AI available.”
He adds, “If interested for yourself please contact Raj McMacintish at ‘AI 4 Every1’ located next to the exotic pet store in Fairhaven FL.”
Watch on Deadline
Cross directed the special himself and exec produced alongside Dexter Scott, Dave Kneebone, Tom Segura, and Ryan P. Hall, with Joshua Cohen and Segura’s YMH Studios producing. 800 Pound Gorilla Media is overseeing its distribution. Check out the first trailer by clicking above.
An Emmy Award-winner and two-time Grammy nominee, Cross has been working as a stand-up for more than four decades, earning critical plaudits for past hours like Making America Great Again!, Oh Come On, I’m From The Future, and The Pride Is Back, among others. As a stand-up, he’s known for a signature mix of ferocity, absurdity, and razor-sharp wit, and beyond that, he’s widely known for his role as Tobias Funke in Arrested Development, among countless additional film and television credits.
Select additional highlights of Cross’s creative career include co-creating and starring in the iconic HBO sketch series Mr. Show with Bob and David, alongside longtime collaborator Bob Odenkirk; co-creating and starring in the Netflix revival With Bob and David; creating and starring in The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret; and writing, directing, and producing the indie Hits, which premiered at Sundance.
Cross is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
