Investigation Discovery is exploring the boy band boom of the 1990s. The WBD network is launching Boy Band Confidential, which comes from NSYNC member Joey Fatone.
The two-parter will reveal “how the industry transformed young performers into marketable commodities while exposing untold stories of abuse, addiction, and financial manipulation”.
It is the latest docuseries to explore the dark world of boy bands after Netflix’s Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam, which explored the career of Lou Pearlman, who discovered the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
Boy Band Confidential, which premieres on April 13, launches ahead of the second season of Hollywood Demons.

It will feature interviews with NSYNC member Lance Bass, AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys, Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Ashley Parker Angel of O-Town and Brad Fischetti of LFO.
It is produced by Ample Entertainment and Compelling Pictures. Fatone exec produces alongside Joe Mulvihill, Ari Mark, Sumit David, Steven Garcia, Denis O’ Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri.
“Being in a boy band was one of the greatest experiences of my life – but it also came with challenges we didn’t always understand at the time. This project gave all of us a chance to reflect, to be honest, and to share what really happened behind the spotlight,” said Fatone.
“Boy Band Confidential goes beyond nostalgia. It’s an honest, unfiltered look at a cultural phenomenon that shaped an entire generation. With Joey Fatone bringing together a who’s who of artists from the era’s most iconic boy bands, we’re illuminating the pressures, vulnerabilities, and surprising realities of life at the height of pop stardom with a level of access rarely achieved in music documentaries,” added Jason Sarlanis, President of ID.
