EXCLUSIVE: Screenwriter and author Karen McCullah has signed with Gersh for representation in all areas, Deadline has learned.
McCullah’s cinematic canon as a screenwriter includes such romantic comedy and coming-of-age crowd pleasing favorites as Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, She’s the Man, The Ugly Truth, and The House Bunny.
The MGM Reese Witherspoon comedy Legally Blonde alone was adapted into a Broadway musical as well as an Amazon MGM Studios series, Elle, debuting this summer.
10 Things I Hate About You has similarly continued to evolve far beyond the screen, with a Broadway musical adaptation now in late-stage development with Tony Award-winning producer Mike Bosner, Golden Globe-winning writer Lena Dunham, Grammy-nominated songwriter Carly Rae Jespsen, Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, and two-time Tony Award-winning music supervisor, arranger, and orchestrator Tom Kitt.

Upcoming, McCullah has The Last Resort, an independently produced romantic comedy set in the Philippines, directed by Donald Petrie (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Miss Congeniality) and starring Daisy Ridley (The Young Woman and the Sea, the modern Star Wars trilogy) and Alden Ehrenreich (Weapons, Solo: A Star Wars Story).
She has also adapted the best-selling books series, A Murder Uncorked, which will star Emma Roberts and Lucas Bravo.
The Honeymoon, based on McCullah’s original pitch and in development at TriStar, follows a focused and driven woman who experiences sudden heartbreak just days before her wedding. Determined not to waste the dream honeymoon she’s spent a lifetime (and a fortune) planning, her best friend encourages her to take the trip anyway. On a whim, he invites a random man from Instagram to join her because he has the same name as her ex-fiancé so she won’t forfeit his plane tickets and might offer the right kind of rebound companionship while on her ”honeymoon.”
McCullah continues to be represented by her long-time manager, Seth Jaret of Virtual Matter.
