EXCLUSIVE: Nyle DiMarco has boarded feature documentary The Way We Move, chronicling the life and work of acclaimed American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter Amber Galloway, as executive producer following its buzzy debut in SXSW last month.
Galloway has made her mark specializing in live music events, signing at concerts for the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Ray, A$AP Rocky, Red Hot Chili Peppers, to making music accessible to the Deaf community.
The doc follows Galloway as she transmits her mission to fresh recruits, Julian Ortiz and Angela “AV” Vilavong, setting them on a path towards some of the most iconic stages in live music such as Austin City Limits, the Grammys, and the Super Bowl, where Ortiz recently delivered a charismatic performance as part of Bad Bunny’s half-time show.
It is produced by Paris-based Wagram Productions, a subsidiary of indie music label Wagram Stories; What’s Up Films, the Oscar-winning production company of Matthieu Belghiti and Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, and Paris and L.A.-based Autopilot.

Born into a multigenerational Deaf family and a graduate of the Washington-based Gallaudet University, specialized in educating the Deaf and hard of hearing, DiMarco first broke out as the first Deaf winner of America’s Next Top Model in 2015.
He then forged a career as a model and actor and recently broke into directing as the co-director of 2025 Sundance selected documentary Deaf President Now!.
The multi-hyphenate Emmy-nominated artist and Deaf community advocate DiMarco said the documentary touched on many issues dear to his own heart.
“As a Deaf filmmaker, I’ve spent my career asking what it means to make culture truly accessible. The Way We Move answers that question beautifully,” DiMarco said.
“People assume music doesn’t belong to the Deaf community,” he continued. “This film doesn’t just challenge that assumption but dismantles it. What Amber Galloway does is more than interpretation. It’s a demonstration of the power of ASL, its ability to transcend language and reach something deeper than sound. It’s not a small thing. That’s a revolution happening on stage, in front of thousands of people. Stories like this one are exactly why I make films.”
Following its world premiere at the 2026 SXSW film festival in the Documentary Spotlight section, The Way We Move was selected as the Closing Night film at La FIFA in Montreal in March and will soon screen in Milwaukee, France, South Korea and Copenhagen.
France’s ARTE has acquired the film in France and Germany; all rights remain available in the rest of the world.
What’s Up Films’ Belghiti and Wagram Productions’ Hubert Cornet said: “We are delighted to welcome Nyle DiMarco as part of the producing team of The Way We Move. His work at the intersection of storytelling and social impact, along with his influence and strong commitment to the Deaf community, perfectly aligns with the film’s vision.”
“Nyle DiMarco joining The Way We Move isn’t just exciting — it’s exactly right. Nobody understands the power of what this film is about better than he does,” added Autopilot’s Eleonore Dailly and Edouard de Lachomette.
The Way We Move is part financed in part by Luxembourg-based impact investment fund Micellium and private investment advisor HORMÉ.
“Supporting The Way We Move wasn’t just a financial decision — it was a values decision. This film captures something rare. We believe that stories have the power to shift culture, and culture is the foundation of lasting change,” said Micellium founder Patrice Lucas on behalf of the financiers.
“Seeing Nyle DiMarco bring his visibility to this project only deepens that impact, opening doors for Deaf representation and accessibility in ways that ripple far beyond the screen — and that’s exactly the kind of multiplied return we invest for.”
