EXCLUSIVE: Franka Potente (Run Lola Run) and Tracy Letts (A House of Dynamite) have signed on for roles alongside Vanessa Kirby, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Tom Pelphrey in Apple‘s sci-fi action-thriller Liminal.
Directed by Louis Leterrier, Liminal is based on the AWA graphic novel Telepaths by Eisner Award winner J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting and Brian Reber, which takes place in a world where a tenth of the population suddenly gains telepathic powers as a result of an electromagnetic disturbance.
Character details for the new hires are under wraps. An official logline for the feature take hasn’t yet been issued.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Liminal is written by Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate). Zach Studin is producing for AWA Studios, alongside Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company via his overall deal with Apple Studios. Ray Angelic exec produces alongside Straczynski, Epting and Reber, with Patrick McNamara co-producing for The Walsh Company. Juliet Kirby is also co-producing.

Potente is a German actress best known for leading the classic indie thriller Run Lola Run who garnered further recognition with roles in Blow, opposite Johnny Depp, and the Bourne franchise, opposite Matt Damon, when she made the leap to Hollywood features after half a decade of well-received roles in German productions. Most recently, she’s been seen in the AMC series Dark Winds and Mayfair Witches, the DC/HBO Max series Titans, and Apple TV’s Echo 3. She is represented by Yazzy Entertainment and Artium Talent.
A Pulitzer and Tony-winning and Emmy-nominated actor, playwright, and screenwriter, Letts is coming off of roles in Kathryn Bigelow’s A House of Dynamite and FX’s The Lowdown opposite Ethan Hawke. He’ll next he seen in Karim Aïnouz’s Mubi thriller Rosebush Pruning, releasing July 24, as well as Amazon MGM Studios’ I Play Rocky, and Guy Nattiv’s Bleecker Street thriller Harmonia. He is repped by UTA and Weintraub Tobin Chediak.
